Beginner drum kits & Cheap drum sets UK

Are you a person looking for beginner drum kits?

It is likely you are either:

  • A teenager looking to buy your first kit?
  • An older person looking to take up the drums for fun?
  • Or a parent buying your child their first drum kit as a present?

It is likely you are looking for a drum kit which is low cost, but still of reasonable quality. It is important not to fall into the trap of being drawn to the cheapest drum kits available. These will almost definitely be of very low quality, and will not last you for very long.

Generally, drum kits can be put into four categories according to their price and quality. Anything up to around £249 is likely to be not worth buying, as it will be of very low quality. To find a good beginner drum kit, you will need to pay between around £249 and £450.

A semi-professional kit will cost anywhere between £450 and £1200, and for a professional kit, the sky's the limit. Naturally, the more you pay for your drum kit, the greater the quality will be. What's important to note, however, is that the shift in quality is greater in the lower price regions than the the higher prices i.e. there will be a greater shift in quality from a £200 to a £400 drum kit than a £1200 to a £1400 one.

This website sells mostly drum kits from the £249-£450 band: good quality beginner drum kits that you will play time and time again, ideal for beginner drummers.

Bearing this in mind, we have selected three drum kits for you. The first of these, the Mapex Torando, is at the bottom end of the second band of drums in terms of price at £249, however it has been reduced from a £299 RRP, so this is a good quality starter drum kit.

The second drum kit we have offered, the Diamond Tornado Student, is also a good starter kit, and retails at £275.

The final drum kit, The Forum Range Pearl, we have selected falls into the bottom end of the 'semi-professional' band at a retail price of £485. This is a higher quality drum kit than the previous two, more suitable for using for live performances, however still relatively low in cost, compared to the much higher end of the market. All of these drum kits are 5-piece (bass drum, snare, high tom, low tom, floor tom) and come with cymbals (the first two come with a hi-hat and crash/ride, the third comes with hi-hat and separate crash and ride cymbals).
